About Me and My Soaps
A-ReMark-able Experience is a Cottage Based business located in south Montgomery County, Texas. The name of the company is about two things. First of all it is what I want my customers to have when using my products. It is also a compilation of my name. My initials are AMR (A-ReMa...).
I live near Houston, TX., with my dear Hubby who makes my soap savers from scratch. He not only makes them but saws the cedar logs into lumber to make them. Also we have a dog that either lives with us, or we with him, I don't know which :o)
We live on nearly one acre of property, which allows me room to become a budding herbalist, pun intended. We grow herbs for our own culinary use, as well as use in future products. Life is a learning process, and I am still learning!
I am a member of the Houston Farmer's Market group, and am a Vendor at the Rice Village Market on Tuesday afternoons(4-7p.m.) located at the corner of Greenbriar and Rice Blvd. You can find me at the Onion Creek Market on Saturday mornings (8-12), located on 6th St. in the Onion Creek Coffee House and Grill parking lot. Come see me, mention that you saw this on my web site and receive a 10% discount!!! If you enjoy; organic vegies, fruits, meats , fresh goat's milk and cheeses, grown without hormones or synthetic chemicals, then stop by any Houston Farmer's Market. We would love to meet you!
The only animals my products have been tested on is the Human animal!
My Soaps and other Custom Made products have in them the best oils and butters I can find! I make my products from scratch, in small batches, anywhere from 7 to 15 pounds at a time. Neither are the bars pressed to extract the glycerin in the soaps, like the industrial bars you buy at the store.
Here is a little know fact. Did you know that in order to make Glycerin, Soap has to be made? In the commercial "detergent bar" industry the glycerin is then pressed out of the soap and sold for industrial, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic use. Glycerin is a humectant, it draws moisture from the air to the skin. In the commercial bar industry, soap is a byproduct. What is left after the glycerin is expressed. That is why you pay less for commercial soap than you do for Custom Crafted or Home Made Soap. My Soaps contain all the glycerin that the saponification process( the chemical reaction to water, sodium/potassium hydroxide, and oils/butters) makes. Why leave the glycerin in? My soaps are also milder, more emollient and gentler for your skin, the largest organ of the body. The bars contain no added chemicals which may harm your skin or enter your body through your pores. It is these chemicals that can make your skin dry, or sensitive.
In making today's home made soap we can scientifically calculate the amount of water and oils ratio to the sodium hydroxide and make the soap milder than our ancestors did. We use a discount (more oils/butters and water) than lye, therefore all of the lye (sodium or potassium hydroxide) molecules are used. This insures that there is no "lye" left in the soap. By the time the soap making process (saponification) has completed, there is no sodium hydroxide (lye) left and the soap is not harsh.
Yes, you saw the evil word "lye". To make soap it is needed. Even the industrial soap makers use it. Then they add other chemicals for surficants and moisturizing after expressing the glycerin. Also the makers of the "glycerin soap" bases use lye. The popular glycerin soaps also have in their base alcohol and other chemicals. Glycerin soaps are better than commercial bars, but not, in my opinion, better than my "true soaps". "True Soap" is also, by it's chemical makeup, antibacterial. Therefore, my customers don't need to buy antibacterial detergent bars.
"Soap" does not need a label of ingredients, however, if used the label needs to have the word soap on it, whether it be here, or out in the retail world! In order for my customers to read the ingredients, I do use a label.
My Creams, Lotions, Salts, Body Butters, Powders, etc. are also made from scratch. The only "chemical" in them outside of the occasional Fragrance Oil, is a preservative, and it is for safety, to prevent mold and or bacteria. The preservative is used in products that either contain water, or where the product comes into repeated contact with your wet hands, like the body butters. Note: Soap does not need a preservative.
There is one exception in my more natural product line, and that is the Body/Linen Spray. It is made with Cyclomethicone. Which is a type of silicone that does not absorb into the skin. The molecules are too large. My Toiletry Products are as natural as I can make them, and still give my customers what they would like!
